Advantage Taekwon-Do, has always focused on quality instruction and on making members and visitors feel safe and welcome by ensuring the environment smells clean and fresh. The owner, Master Luis Mejia, has an established reputation throughout the International Taekwon-Do Federation for cleanliness and hygiene, using diluted ammonium chloride frequently on as many surfaces as possible.
But disinfecting the entire 2,000 square foot facility was impractical more than biweekly. As a martial arts studio that also doubled as a yoga studio, there was also a wide variety of equipment to disinfect, like rubber mats, kick and punch bags, and targets. The smell from bacteria and fungi feeding on the sweat would grow until the next disinfection cycle.
With intensive and aggressive skin contact with all surfaces, the bacteria and fungi would cause students and instructors to become sick, especially from respiratory illnesses, from spending time in the close, shared space.
Five locations were sampled before and after treatment with EPIC iO AURA. The top row was sampled without EPIC iO AURA after only receiving regular cleaning and disinfection using an ammonium chloride-based quat. The bottom row shows the bacteria remaining after disinfection with EPIC iO AURA.
Master Mejia decided to increase the frequency of disinfecting the room and the depth of that disinfection to eliminate the growth of pathogens.
The school wall-mounted one EPIC iO AURA unit and scheduled it to run every night of the week. And on days when the school was closed for lessons, it was scheduled for a deeper and longer disinfection. The HVAC was left running so that the ducts would also be treated.

The concentration of ozone in the room rose steeper and quicker during the second cycle since there were fewer germs in the space.
The Fall
Additional concrete evidence of successful disinfection was the rate of decay: the second cycle took longer to decay than the first cycle, taking nearly double the time. This is because there were fewer germs in the room to consume the residual ozone.
Time
